Chariots Of Fire
"Chariots of Fire" is an amazing movie that came out 39 years ago and is as fresh today it was released.
The film takes place in the 1920's and is centered around the 1924 Olympics. The key characters in the movie are "Harold Abrahams" ,played by Ben Cross , the son of a Lithuanian Jew, who became known around England as gifted sprinter. The other man character is "Eric Liddell" a devout Christian who came from family of missionaries. He was played by Ian Charleson. He too was known around his native land, Scotland, as an incredible sprinter.
The story shows how these great runners prepared for the event. It also featured Harold's life at Cambridge University's Caius College. The movie showed how elegant things were there. Also I noticed how many pets were featured in the movie. Mostly dogs, not cats, oh well!!
The movie was totally elegant and the details from the beautiful costumes. The movie won four Academy awards including Best Picture, Best Writing, Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen and Best Costume Design. The fourth oscar win was for Vangelis's incredible soundtrack. It truly makes the movie a masterpiece.
The film's cast includes Ian Holm, who played Harold's trainer, "Sam Mussabini". The cast includes Alice Krige, Nigel Havers, Sir John Gielgud, Nigel Davenport, Dennis Christopher and Nicholas Farrell.
